Writing Update: Steady Progress on the Show Jumping Novel, and Two New Children's Stories Completed!
How Daily Writing Targets is Helping Me Make Steady Progress
Hi everyone,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. As always, I'm excited to share with you the progress I've made in my writing journey over the past week.
This week, I focused on the first act of my show-jumping novel. I set myself a daily target of either writing 500 new words or editing 500 words. This approach has worked wonders for me as it allowed me to make steady progress without feeling overwhelmed. Despite my day job, I made slow but steady progress, which is a great feeling.
In addition to working on my novel, I completed the first draft of two new children's short stories. Both stories are about 2500 words and feature my grandchildren, Emelia and Logan. In "Emelia and the Magic Unicorn Slippers," Emelia receives a pair of slippers that come with a magical secret. In the second story, "Logan’s Shortcut to Pudding" Logan takes a shortcut through a familiar wood but ends up in an unfamiliar place where he meets a greedy unicorn, a wicked witch, and a house made of carrots.
Now that both stories are finished, I plan to let them rest for a while before revising and editing them to get them in the best shape possible before pitching them to literary agents. Finding an agent is a huge challenge, but I'm ready to take it on. I know official publishing is notoriously difficult, but I want to challenge myself and see if I can succeed. If you’d like to help and proofread my draft please let me know - I would be very grateful and you may even get a mention in the book!
If you've enjoyed reading my updates and want to support my writing journey, I would be grateful if you could share my newsletter with your friends and family. And if you haven't already, please consider subscribing so you never miss an update.
Thank you for your continued support, and I'll see you next week with more updates on my writing journey.
Best,
Roy
