Rainbow Sparkles: Creating a New Children's Book with My Granddaughter
Welcome back to my blog where I document my adventures in creating children's books. Today, I have something truly special to share with you. My latest project is not just another story – it’s a heartwarming collaboration with my 6-year-old granddaughter, Emelia. When she expressed her desire to write a book with me, how could I possibly say no?
Together, we’re bringing to life a delightful tale titled "Rainbow Sparkles Saves the Day". Initially, I suggested naming our friendly shark protagonist Sammy, but Emelia quickly deemed it too boring. Instead, she opted for the far more enchanting name, Rainbow Sparkles! And so, our journey began.
Our story revolves around Rainbow Sparkles, a kind-hearted shark who surprises everyone on the beach by saving a young child from drowning. Emelia and I are having a blast creating this narrative, which also features her brother Logan, because as per Emelia's rules, he just had to be part of the story!
We've drafted the outline, and I’ve begun planning the storyboard to visualize the illustrations that will accompany our words. Like many picture books, we're aiming for a concise 500 words spread over 32 pages, the industry standard.
Here's a sneak peek at our progress:
Outline Drafted: Emelia and I spent hours brainstorming and crafting the perfect storyline.
Storyboard Planning: I’ve started sketching out the storyboard, mapping the illustrations to complement the narrative.
This project has been an incredible bonding experience and a fantastic way for Emelia to explore her creativity. I’m excited to see how it evolves and can’t wait to share more updates with you all.
Call for Volunteers:
We’re looking for volunteers to review our outline story. Your feedback would be invaluable in shaping our book. If you’re interested, please reach out – we’d love to hear from you!
A Fun Visit to Gorse Hill Primary:
Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting Gorse Hill Primary near Swindon. I read my two dinosaur books, "The Scariest Dinosaur" and "I Saw a Dinosaur", to the children and shared insights into my writing and illustrating process. The visit was a hit, filled with lots of laughter and some very intriguing questions from the kids. It was truly a rewarding experience and a great reminder of why I love creating children's books.
Join the Journey:
I invite you all to follow me on this exciting journey as Emelia and I bring Rainbow Sparkles to life. Your support and engagement mean the world to us. Follow my blog for regular updates, behind-the-scenes peeks, and perhaps even some sneak previews of our illustrations.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. Let’s create some magic together!
Warmest wishes,
Roy Pawbery
